Proposed Pico/Midvale Interim Housing Project for Homeless Individuals

August 25, 2023 //  by Barbara Broide

CD5 Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky recently introduced a proposal to create a 30-bed interim housing facility on L.A. City Parking Lot #707, located at the northwest corner Pico and Midvale Ave.

The proposal, while addressing the urgent need for interim supportive housing in CD5 (CD5 currently has no interim housing for homeless individuals in development) has been controversial.  Many residents in the immediate vicinity have responded with concerns about safety and expressed opposition to the project. They have also raised questions about the impact on businesses located adjacent to the existing forty-one vehicle capacity parking lot.

It is estimated that CD5 is home to 1,300 unhoused residents.

WSSM submitted six pages of questions to the CD office and recently received answers to those questions which are being reviewed.  The Pico-Midvale Questions and Answers submitted by WSSM and West of Westwood HOA can be viewed below. You can also read the document in a new tab here.

Pico-Midvale Questions and Answers

A second set of questions are currently being gathered.  If you wish to add your own question to the list, please send it to: barbara.wssm@gmail.com.
