Floor Area Ratio

Short for Floor Area Ratio, FAR is a way of determining the allowable size of a new or modified building, based on the area and zoning of the lot. For example, the maximum allowable square footage for a new building on a 10,000 square foot lot zoned for an FAR of 1.5 would be 15,000 square feet.
