Jim Fawcett, WSSM Board Member

I’ve lived in the same house in Rancho Park for 38 years, on a wonderful block with many neighbors who’ve also lived here for a long time. And, now I’ve been on the WSSM Board of Directors for at least the past eight years.

I loved what the board did to encourage the city to retain our distinctive early-20th Century streetlights and that campaign really gave me a lot of respect for the work of WSSM. Eventually, I decided to join the board to help when it opposed the loony one-way proposals for Olympic and Pico, and have been pleased to be a member as the board has diligently worked with Councilman Koretz’s office to oppose upzoning of Pico Boulevard.

I teach marine and environmental policy at USC and have a background in urban planning, so the work of the board is familiar territory for me. With the change in use of the Westside Pavilion and the prospect of many more changes in our neighborhood, I feel as though those of us who have the time and experience owe it to our neighbors to pitch in and advocate for our neighborhood. I love living in Rancho Park and want us to join together to guide the future of our marvelous home.
