As a result of the high number of potential/projected cases of Corona Virus in California, the Governor and Mayors of local municipalities (including Los Angeles) are ordering unessential businesses to close to the public and for Californians to remain at home for all but essential activities (which are clearly defined in the government orders). Whenever individuals leave their homes, they are reminded to maintain 6 feet of social distancing from others. Groups are not to congregate. Regular hand washing and remembering to refrain from touching your eyes, nose and mouth are critical to protecting yourself from this serious and potentially deadly virus.
The Stay at Home orders are focused on reducing the growth rate of new cases of the virus so that our health care system will not be overwhelmed and also to allow time for critically needed medical equipment/supplies to be procured. (As we are all aware, there is still not an adequate supply of test kits, respiratory equipment, and protective equipment for first responders and medical providers.) It is essential that ALL Californians heed the call. It will not be effective if even 10% of the population fail to understand the seriousness of the situation or of the possibility that they could be infected and not know it and could pass the virus on to others. The spread of the virus must be slowed. We are no longer able to trace contacts and contain the virus – the first line of epidemiologists who fight communicable diseases. We now must blunt and cut the rate of spread.
